Tracey Thorn (of Everything But The Girl)- Night Time (The XX cover)

Wow…how did this one get past my radar? If you think about it, Everything But The Girl and The XX have a lot of similarities…both hail from the UK, both consist of one man and one woman, both have a wide variety of musical styles in their albums. It makes perfect sense for the boy/girl duo of the past to cover one from the present. EBTG’s “Missing” will remain a classic, and hopefully The XX’s songs will hold that status in years to come.

Cam’ron- Freestyle (from Rocafella Mixtape Volume 3)

back in the day i used to really keep up with hip hop. i used to get the latest mixtapes, listen to the popular shows, and keep up with the new singles. i became a huge fan of camron and the entire dipset. i thought tony yayo and juelz santana were hot shit. jim jones not so much but he was still cool. anyway, i digress. this freestyle is my favorite from camron. it shows off his creative rhymes, and it speaks of the beginning of a new era where him and dipset were getting prepared to do a one-two punch takeover of the entire rap scene. the movement lasted a number of years, but then g-unit moved in. now young money has the scene on lock, with little room for anyone else. the glory days of dipset occurred during a simpler time in my life, and allowed a bond between one particular friend of mine to flourish over the goodness that is cam’ron’s flow. even now when we see each other we can’t help but say a lyric or two from this fuckin’ awesome freestyle.
